What’s on at St Marys
We host a variety of Church Services and Community Activities each week, as well as Special Events throughout the year.
Sunday Services
Our Sunday Services vary in style - traditional, contemporary, and family-focused, so there's something to suit different ways of worshipping.
During our Heritage 160 building works, 8.30am services and 5pm Evensong are taking place in the Parish Hall (behind the church). From 13th September 2026 we will return to the newly refurbished church.
1ST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH
8.30am Holy Communion Service Our early morning quiet and reflective service with no singing.
10am Communion Service with Striders for children Our traditional service with hymns and choir.
2ND SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH
8.30am Holy Communion Service Our early morning quiet and reflective service with no singing.
10am Morning Worship with Striders for children Our band leads singing and we focus on God’s words in the Bible.
3RD SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH
8.30am Holy Communion Service Our early morning quiet and reflective service with no singing.
10am All Together Communion Service Our service where we worship together as a family of all ages
4TH SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH
8.30am Holy Communion Service Our early morning quiet and reflective service with no singing.
10am Build Our service starts with sharing breakfast together and then is packed full of fun.
5TH SUNDAY OF MONTH
8.30am Holy Communion Service Our early morning quiet and reflective service with no singing.
10am No Service We engage in community service as individuals or as a group.

Raine Geoghegan award-nominated Romani poet
Raine Geoghegan, M.A. is a poet, scriptwriter and performer of Romany, Welsh and Irish ethnicity.
She is a Forward Prize, twice Pushcart Prize, and Best of the Net nominee whose work has been published internationally and online. She has three books published with Hedgehog Press and two with Salmon Press. She was brought up in a Romany household in Middlesex and has written much about her childhood and her ancestors. She gives performances in the UK and Ireland and has had the great honour of reading her work in the 'Church in the Woods' also known as the Gypsy Church on Bramdean Common.
On 7th November Raine will read from her poetry collections and share stories based on her family. She will take you to the hop fields in Kent and Herefordshire, the apple orchards in the Vale of Evesham, the strawberry fields in East Sussex and also back to the time when her great granny sold flowers along the road and her great grandfather was born under a gooseberry bush. There'll be poems, monologues and Gypsy lullabies. Towards the end of her performance she will open the floor to anyone who would like to share a story, poem or song and there'll be time to ask any questions you may have.
She will also bring along a few books so please BRING CASH if you wish to purchase. They range from £6-15.

Our popular annual Christmas Fayre is where everyone from the community gathers and enjoys all things Christmas.

Curious about faith?
We’re really encouraged by the number of people who’ve already expressed interest in our Start! course – thank you! If you’re one of them, we’re looking forward to welcoming you soon.
Start! is a free, relaxed six-session course for anyone who’s curious about Christianity:
• What is Christianity all about?
• Who is Jesus and why does he matter?
• How can faith make a difference in everyday life?
Dates: 8, 15, 22 Feb & 1, 8, 15 March
Time: 2-4pm (includes coffee & cake)
Location: Parish Hall at St Mary’s Church, Sholing, 49 St Monica Road, Sholing SO19 8ES.
You don’t need any church background, Bible knowledge, or prior faith – this course is open to everyone, especially those who are just beginning to explore or ask questions.
Friendly, informal, and down-to-earth – with plenty of space to listen, reflect, and ask questions.

8.45-10am - Friends of St Monica Coffee Morning (term time) - open to any families in Sholing. No need to book, just turn up and you’ll receive a warm welcome.

On the 2nd Saturday of the month we hold a Cleaning & Maintenance morning from 9am. If you can give any support, please do come along and help out with the small DIY jobs and deep cleaning.
